After multiple denies, and many appeals and actually a year without our insurance paying for it...we finally won the battle! Well I should say our amazing pediatrician and staff in particular won the battle. I am SO grateful for their persistence and determination...they never gave up! In reality I'm late on the celebration, we actually won it back in January, but since we just got our second dose today. I figured it should be something to remember. The Synagis shot is a dose of extra protection from the nasty RSV virus. That stuff wipes out healthy kids and so imagine what it can do to our little ones with SMA who already fight to breath every day. It's pretty criminal that our insurance company can't seem to understand that.
Maggie was so brave! I never bring my camera with me to the office, but I wish I could capture how cute she is in there! Her favorite thing to do is sit up with her legs dangling over the edge and play with the crunchy paper and babble away. She looks like such a big girl! Of course those two ladies come in and poke her legs and then all happiness is gone. Poor thing. However, today she recovered quickly and sang all the way home. So we decided to have an extra long bath for being so brave!
Look at how stinkin long she is!!! Not her legs though...hehehe
The best part was when we sat up...she was swinging her arms around and then out of the corner of her eye spotted something bright orange. It was her band-aids that were still on her leg, starting to come off. With such determination she managed to pull both band-aids off her own legs. So proud of her! She was proud of herself too. Love seeing her problem solve and figure out how to use her hands to do what she wants! Wish I had four hands so that I could have video-ed (is that a word?) that.

Seriously! What is your with our insurance carriers in this country? Shouldn't that just be an automatic given with any child with SMA? It honestly get me a little heated. I am so grateful they approved it but sorry you had to appeal so many times. Ridiculous!
Magg's is so long and beautiful! I just love hearing about the little things she does each day that bring such joy to you and Whit.
Sure love you two!

Brave little, strong little Maggie Boo!
And you got those band-aids off...all by yourself!!!!!!
I love your determined little eyes, taking everything in to that determined little head of yours - I can see it in your expression, and I think you are one special girl.
Maggie, I haven't met you but I love you. :)
Thanks Mom & Dad, for sharing all of it so that we can share, too.
Love,
Cathy in Missouri
