The long delay in a new post as been to the fact that we have been in the hospital. Jonas had his first battle with pneumonia. Darn stuff, we have no idea how he got it. It wasn't viral and nothing grew bacterial. Two Saturdays ago, the 19th, Jonas woke up with a cough. We camped out in his room right next to his equipment ready to use every hour to try and get control. It didn't work he had a temp. of 102 and by the morning he couldn't get off his bi-pap without dropping his O2. We knew he needed to get to the hospital but we couldn't get him there. We called an ambulance and they took us up to Primarys. He was working too hard and he was going to crash if we didn't help him. They intubated him Sunday night. Something we didn't want, but knew that was the only thing going to help him. He stayed intubated for five days and did a pretty good job coming off. The x-rays showed that he had a collapsed lobe and some major stuff behind his heart. I learned a great new word meaning the collapse, but have no idea how to spell it. So either he collapsed his lobes and that cause the pneumonia or the pneumonia cause the collapse. Either way not fun.
He had the best nurses, respiratory therapists, and of course the best nurse of all, Dad. What would we do without Dad. Well we would probably still be in the hospital. We finally came home Wednesday evening the 30th. A lot longer than we expected. We are still keeping up with the hospital routine, which is every four hours do his treatments.
The second to last day we were there two other children came into the PICU that have SMA. One we didn't meet and the other was a family that Whit talked to when they were first diagnosed. His name his Karson and he is 14 weeks old. He actually roomed with us are last night and day. Along with another little boy named Kash that has something very similar to SMA. We all three were in one room. It was getting crowded. It was really nice to meet them and know that there are families out there who have the exact same feelings we do and are going through each day like us.
Sorry that this has turned into a novel, but that is what we have been up to in a nut shell. Thank goodness that we live so close to the best Children's Hospital and that I have the Twilight Series to reread. More importantly that I have family and friends who care and give us their love and prayers. Thank you we love you all!! Especially from Jonas!
