When you don't have anyone in school counting down the days until they get out, summer really sneaks up on you. But it's official because we went swimming today! Sorry, no pictures. In my excitement to finally make it out of the house without a jacket, I left behind the camera. Don't worry it's just the beginning. Maggie had a great time and tuckered herself out, trying to swim like the big girls. She's going to have to try to learn how to conserve that energy, we've got all summer to swim! Some of those days are going to even include Daddy! I guess I should mention that Whit has a new job. There are three main reasons why Whit left working with Dr. Swoboda's team. 1) He wants to go back to school to get his Masters and the work schedule isn't quite the right fit. 2) He missed the type of nursing that he went to school for and use his skills that he hasn't ever actually been able to use. Sitting at a desk in a window-less room, talking on the phone isn't much for Whit. 3) It was emotionally draining. Ever since Jonas passed away, taking on the problems of a lot more SMA kids got exponentially worse. He felt extreme guilt leaving the team, the kids, and the families. He knows how much it was appreciated that he actually "knew" what you were feeling. Other doctors thought it was great to have the perspective of a nurse plus a father of an SMA child. But you have to do what's right for you. So Whit has a new job. We will forever be grateful for the time, love, concern, help, that was given while working with such a great team of people. It was the perfect fit at the time. Whit's last day of work was the day that our friend Brynlee passed. He said, "this is why I can't do this anymore. He witnessed four SMA children pass onto the next life within 1 year, one of them being Jonas. I could hardly bear that, and could never have done it four times so close together. So I support him 100%.
It does mean that we will have him one extra day a week with him! Who can complain about that!
Not Maggie!

I'm sure everyone will miss him. I can see his reasons though. I have had patients pass and it's tough, but in my case it hasn't been children and not SMA. The White's
We will really miss Whit. He was incredible! He was really good at explaining things and compassionate. So, here is a thank you shout out to both of you.
My husband and I talked many times about how hard it would be to work there having your own kids with it as well.
Hopefully we'll still cross paths since we have many common friends.
That last comment was from the Kirks.
