Thank you so so much everyone for the thoughts, kind words of encouragement and simple recognitions that this just plain stinks. I know that there are so many people who have gone through things like this and even other things that are just as trying and hard in their own ways. It's incredibly helpful to be surrounded by people who care and support you even in your down moments.
We are moving forward. We have our up days when things don't seem so bad and those down days when the reality of events sink in again. But life goes on. One day at a time. I'm just so grateful that I have Maggie. She again has been my source of joy and is the reason that I get out of my bed.
Speaking of Maggie, she has been such a trooper these past 2 weeks. She
has been in feet casts as we've been trying to help give her ankles a
good long stretch. It's called serial casting. Her feet have always been
on the tighter side and unfortunately daily stretching and wearing her
DAFO shoes haven't kept her loose enough. We were worried that she was
headed down the path of getting painful contractors, which are pretty
much irreversible. You can do surgery, but that's not what we want to do
either, so serial casting it was.
We did this 3 times, every 4 days. Each time stretching a little more.
The only thing that bummed her out was not getting to have a typical bath. She thought it was pretty strange that Mommy was holding her legs out of the water, while Daddy did the washing.
Whoops, had to redo one and there wasn't another purple. So blue it was...we'd rather have a blue cast than blue toes. She could have cared less.
The last pair were red again, but I just realized I didn't take a picture of them. Duh. I guess all I could think about was taking them off.
We are so grateful for Donata for coming to our house after work, so that Maggie didn't have to go to the hospital. She is a special lady!
Her feet seem to be a little looser and now our goal is to keep them that way. We have new shoes ordered and hopefully those will help too!

She's such a sweetie. I love seeing her cute little toes poking out of her casts. I hope this keeps her from future pain. xoxo
This has been the year for casts! I love the colors you picked maggie :). I hope this helps her feet.
