Saturday was the first adventure to the zoo for Maggie. Maggie was looking and feeling pretty good so we thought we'd join the fun. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for taking us to the zoo, it was fun, rain and all.
Some where back there, there is suppose to be an ostrich
I really like this picture....this is when it decided it was going to rain... I think a big drop hit her right in the face, but I had to get a pic with the baby elephant...so cute!!!
Unfortunately, poor Maggie wasn't feeling as great as we thought, not too long later she decided to have a little episode. She just gets so upset that she can't clear her throat and then it just tailspins from there. When we visited our pulmonologist, he was pretty convinced that she never really had a second cold. Rather she aspirated her saliva, getting it into her lungs, which cause the little collapse and all the reoccurring fevers. Well, we're pretty sure that's what happened again at the zoo because later on that evening she had another fever, 104.4 fever to be exact. She was miserable. We have got to get these secretions under control!!
That evening, a little rash appeared on her tummy. She has super sensitive skin so that's what we chalked it up to be. However, by Sunday afternoon her fever had gone, but her rash got worse. She actually woke up with a red eye and the rash on her face. Later on it looked like this all over her front and back...
It's hard to see, but it looks just like the measles! We are pretty sure Maggie is having a reaction to her MMR that she got on September 1st! We looked it up, it happens in about 5% of people 7-12 days after, but usually it's just the rash. When we looked at the symptoms of measles we were amazed at how many (basically all of them!) we could check off...Rash - check
Fevers - check
Diaherra - check
Bloodshot eye - check
Muscle pain - check (she has been so sensitive to her therapists, maybe this is why)
Cough - check
Runny nose - check
Sore throat - check (can't be for sure because she can't tell us, but you can tell)
Crazy! No wonder she hasn't been herself lately. I had no clue this was a possibility of the immunizations, so I wasn't looking for it. Dumb me, I guess. I hope this has been the whole issue and once this passes we can begin anew. Whoever made up that saying, " when it rains, it pours" well they weren't kidding. Just one thing after another. Maybe they are all related caused by one another, or totally coincidental, we'll never know.
Cross my fingers, I think we are heading to the clear now. Her rash looks so much better tonight, no fevers, but I've said it before and next thing we know something else pops up. Let's see what's next!

You are not dumb. Perfectly understandable that you didn't think about her shots. I'm sure even an expert would overlook that too. Stop being so hard on yourself. You are doing great!
Poor Maggie. She is one little strong girl though. She will get through it! We think of her and You and Whit all the time! Sending Kisses!!!! XOXOXOX
Ohhh, poor Maggie! Don't feel bad about not knowing, it could be anything and it is hard to know if it is something to worry about or really worry about! You do such a good job- I wish we lived closer so that I could get tips from you! Hope she keeps on the the up and up and you have a great weekend!
Just happened to come across your blog, and as an M.D., the symptoms you describe and picture really make me think it's Roseola http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001963/, which is a very common virus in all young children. Roseola is not a reaction to any vaccine and is MUCH less serious than the measles. Good Luck and best wishes!
Oh my gosh! Poor Maggie -- an ouchie shot and an illness to boot. Hoping she is feeling better now.
Poor Maggie!! : ( I was wondering if you would like to have Jonas' and Maggie's pictures included in our 'Look into the eyes of SMA' wall that will be up at this year's Georgia's Journey of Hope. If you are please send their pictures along with a few sentences about each of them to my friend Tanya -tanyafranci@shaw.ca She will put each of them onto a beautiful scrapbook page and we will have them up on October 2nd. The wall is quite amazing and touched many people last year.
Hope Maggie is feeling better now!
Sincerely,
Kristen (Georgia's mom)
