Back to crazy girl.... we were making baby steps with her power chair. This picture was when we took her over to our church's gym to practice. She did great! Stopping with purpose a lot more, bigger circles were being made, we managed to go from one end to the other. The forward motion was still really hard for her to even move to, but I think she was starting to connect that SHE was in charge. But since then, something has happened where Maggie is NOT liking her power chair anymore. She gets in it does a few circles and then breaks down and cries. Theories...
1. she's frustrated that she can't make it do what she wants
2. She knows that she has a hard time controlling it and when she hits something she cries. So she's anticipating hitting something. (i don't know if that even makes sense :))
3. She's uncomfortable
Anyway, we're trying, she's trying. Is there a book out there on how to teach your 17 month old to drive a power chair?? I need it.
So for now, what has Maggie been preferring to be in...her stander. She can stand for an hour straight and keep on standing if I let her! Which is wonderful. I can actually accomplish some house chores and she can keep herself busy. Listening to music helps because their might be a spur of the moment dance party! It's actually a must!

Oh Maggie! You are just too cute. Just keep working in the power chair, once Lucy figured it out, she loved it (and still does). I am so proud of her!
Maggie is a doll! Glad she loves the stander. Nicholas didn't like the power chair either. He is just now at three and a half, wanting to try it again. I don't know why he never liked it, but we let him guide us as we make decisions about his equipment as he always knows best!
Any post from you is a good post - and believe me, you never have to apologize when they can't be frequent. LIFE. It keeps happening. I don't have to tell you!
Maggie, you are doing great, girl. You just keep trying and letting everyone know what you like and what you don't like and it will all get sorted out. I'm just so glad you have all that Maggie-Spirit inside & keep on with your growing and learning and expressing yourself.
And you've got such a wonderful Mommy and Daddy who love you and show it every day.
Glad to check in with you,
Cathy in Missouri
I'm glad that Riley is not the only one who has a love hate relationship with his power chair. It took us a really long time to get him to like it. He doesn't mind sitting in it but getting him to drive is like pulling teeth sometimes. I think part of it is frustration and another is just personality. She'll get the hang of it. And she's still really young so no worries :)
She is so cute and looks amazing! About the power chair. Have you tried switching the controls so that going forward is pulling back, since that is usually the easier motion for our kids than pushing forward??
Love her in her stander. When Colin was littler he liked using a lazy Susan in his stander (and laying down, too). We had one that was easy to move and he loved playing with different toys in different spots under HIS control.

Brynlee did the same thing. We figured out that it was because her head wasn't supported. We changed her head rest to one with laterals and it was night and day difference. We wished we had figured it out a year earlier. I would say give that a try. Brynlee stopped wanting to drive it after she went off her first bump. We tried all the neck things to but that didn't work. I think with her head strapped down she didn't feel like she was gonna fall. She adorable though, good luck!
dang Maggie you are so cute! Keep working that chair. You can see the world from a whole different view. Way to go, big girl :)
