A Busy and Unexpected Summer

We have had one trip after another which was planned and anticipated for all winter. Something we didn't plan for was the summer illnesses that Maggie has been battling. They have been so frustrating! Luckily, these unplanned nuisances have only made us miss one of our trips, but they've all been slightly affected.
After our Lake Powell trip things seemed to be on the up...
We finally started making it to the pool more frequently. Sadly, a bunch of our Saturdays that we've been home it's either been raining or the pool has been closed. So we are super excited when dad can make it home earlier for us to hit some family swim time together.

It hasn't been quite the summer of swimming we had expected. Of course as we were gearing up for one final trip, Maggie starts showing some signs of being sick again!!!
Our plan was to leave on Friday and Monday was when we noticed. I wanted to take her right into the hospital, get some IV antibiotics and be done with this. But at that point she wasn't showing anything serious enough for us to merit taking her in. We kept waiting, and waiting to see when it would get worse and on Wednesday she spiked a fever of 104 and we were off to the hospital.
Poor little girl got to visit the same ER room as her brother did his very first time. She however was in a much better state. We waited our typical 5 hours to be admitted and up we went to our room. Oh and I was so grateful to NOT be in the PICU. Such a pain there! We've chalked up this visit to an Aspiration Pneumonia. Good because it wasn't a stupid cold that had to take it's course, but curious has to how that happened. I'd like to think that we try to help her control her secretions and we do preventative coughs every morning and night. Just wasn't enough this time I guess.
So we spent one night there, could have done another but we opted to sleep in our own beds :), received our IV antibiotics, looked and felt so much better, had the BEST nurses ever (we knew them all) and made it home in time to pack for our trip!
I wish all hospital trips could be this simple. Maybe we would go in more often.
