We had a couple weeks back home from our Disneyland vacation before we headed off onto our next adventure...Lake Powell. Maggie did battle a little bout of pneumonia in between, but she was a fighter and when the time came we were ready to be on the lake.
We love Lake Powell and the fun times we have relaxing, playing in the water whenever we want and cruising around in the boat.
The first night we almost didn't finish out the trip, it was so blasted HOT!!
It was absolutely miserable and poor Maggie slept, but it was not peaceful at all and she would have never made it through that heat every night. So luckily the next day brought a reprieve from the heat with the air conditioner and the water. Our bodies adjusted ever so slightly and has the week went on the weather cooled. By the last night we were actually sleeping with a sheet on the top of us!
Needless to say, we did hang in there and we had a fabulous trip. A little shorter than normal, but that was planned and we sure missed our normal week long time there.
It's not a super easy thing to sleep in Lake Powell, thank goodness for our portable generator, long extension cords, and battery powered fans!
Loving the speed of the boat!
Our little water baby! Even when she wasn't swimming, she was entertained by watching everyone else swim
Happy 4th of July!! We love America
Sparkler crew struggled just a tad...this was as close as we could get. Who knows maybe it was the photographer too.
Watching our massive fire from a farther distance than normal. Really it wasn't weather for a fire..too hot!
Plus our faces would have melted off! Just look at that thing
Massive Tumbleweed = Massive Fire (for a sec or two)
Scary picture...but Maggie wanted to ask Aunt Arica and Aunt Lindsay if she had anything in her teeth? Enjoying some homemade Oreo's, Yum
Best smile ever! She loves her Daddy
One day we went to the Marina to get our ice cream fix and ended
up arriving almost the same time as some 40 - 50 mph winds! It was a little unnerving and they were telling us it was going to last 2-3 hrs. Knowing Maggie would not do very well for that long and we had some puppies back at the houseboat, we made the decision to head back. We left half of our
group at the Marina while the other half all put on life jackets
(something we've never done before) and slowly headed back to our beach.
With all the accidents and deaths that have happened this summer down in Lake Powell, we were super cautious. It was so so bumpy, Whit and I hit heads together while trying to
absorb the impacts from each bump away from Maggie. Water was spraying
us in the face, something Maggie did NOT appreciate. However, we made it back
safe and sound and the rest of the gang came back safely too.
The daring, wind battling, boat saving crew. This picture does the weather no justice at all. It was pretty wild. Our speed boat would have been beached on the back of the houseboat had they not all jumped in and floated the boat away. Then dove down and anchored it in the shallows. Way to go team!
I think she was having fun...
Happy Birthday Papa!! We sure love you too!
Notice we are wearing Daddy's glasses....Maggie's disappeared. Probably to the bottom of the Lake. Boo.
One of our favorite activities is to swim in the clear canyon waters. We had to go back and get the whole gang to join us.
The whole gang...minus Papa who's taking the picture.
Our last day, avoiding going home and indulging one more time in big family fun. Maggie was doing so well, she got to swim all by herself with Grammie and Papa.
Remember that wind storm, well we managed to save the speedboat from being beached, but we couldn't say the same for the houseboat. When we tried to leave, it was STUCK! It took forever to become free. Everyone pushing in the front, lots of side to side swaying from the houseboat and eventually we broke free. So we got a much later start home than we ever anticipated. 2 am home from Lake Powell, not ideal.
Wish we could go back!
