Well I guess you get what you deserve. Taking Jonas out and about as now turned into a cold. It is a little frustrating because we try so hard to be smart about what we do, where we go and when we go. Dang summer colds, I thought we'd snuck by.
He's got a couple of things going on:
Monday night we went camping in the backyard. Jonas did not have a good night, we thought it was because it was kind of cold. While calling the camp out done at 6 am and in the process of moving Jonas inside he aspirated on his saliva and/or reflux. After recuperating from that episode we discovered that he had a temp. of 106.2!!!
Are you kidding me! Who has a fever of 106!
Camping seemed to be enjoyable
As we assessed the situation we recalled his ears. Flashback: After we returned from our beach trip, I cleaned out Jonas' ears and he had some different colored ear "stuff"(I hate saying wax it's gross). I passed it off as nothing. I found that a couple of more times and Whit felt like we should get his ears checked. We were in the thought process of seeing our pediatrician anyway. We made a call, of course Dr. is off that day, but we are in that morning. By the time we got to the office, Jonas' temp was down and he seemed to be ok.
In the ear that we thought was fine... an infection
The ear we thought was having a problem... a ruptured eardrum!!
Oh my heck, by now Whit and I feel like great parents. On our behalf, Jonas never gave me any signs that he felt bad.
While checking him out, he also mentioned that Jonas had a little cold brewing in his nose. We'd hoped that was just maybe some side effect of sleeping outside, but no.
He's on meds to help nip the ears in the butt and in the process hopefully keep back anything in his lungs from the aspiration from turning into a pneumonia. Plus boost his immune system to hopefully help him get over this cold asap.
Later that night he had a bath and did not do well again. He most likely aspirated again causing his sats to drop and sound really bad. We were teetering on going to the hospital.
Today he sounds pretty dang junky in his lungs, a little Darth Vaderish or like a frog croaking. After his respitory therapies he sounds a little better but not clear. He has been acting much happier than I expect.
He can still give a smile for his little corn. ( I like to grow minature things for Jonas, recall mini carrot last year)
With all that is going on who knows what caused what. Maybe the ear infection was the cause for the fever...maybe the fever is from him aspirating...maybe it's from his cold. All I know is that he is sick. It just stinks because he was doing so well and now it's a step back again and who knows how long it will take to regain the ground that we had. We are hopeful that he can be strong and recover quickly. I've said it before and I will say it again, he is a trooper!

my thoughts and prayers are coming your way. please keep us posted on his progress.
It kinda sucks that our kids are so good natured. I wouldn't know if Brynlee had something going on like that because she just doesnt seem to feel pain the way other kids do, ya know? I am thinking about you guys and I hope you don't end up in the hospital. We have been there enough for all of us this month! If you guys need anything let me know?
give jonas kisses and i hope he feels better soon.
Oh jeez--poor guy!! Hugs and kisses to Jonas (and you guys too!). Hope he gets better soon!!!
Poor Jonas! You're right, he is a trooper. The mini-corn is so great! The camping idea sure looked like fun too!! Here's hoping that he beats this illness SUPER fast!!
Oh bummer! I'm sorry he is sick and I hope he is on the mend quickly. It has been so fun to see him (and you) out and about.
That is my kind of camping. We have done it in the front room before :) Glad he is feeling better.
Sorry to hear Jonas has caught something. It was great speaking with you the other day Whit! I have been thinking a lot since our conversation about what it must be like working in a clinical environment with so many tragically ill children and then have your son with SMA. You are a brave strong soul dealing with this in the way you are!! Anyways, thought i'd stop by and check out your blog. I'll add you guys to Shira's blog site asonginthisworld.blogspot.com
Take care you guys and give your boy a hug from all of us up here in Canada.
How are you all doing...? Is Jonas any better? I keep checking on you by blog and hoping that maybe his bug has taken a hike by now.
You're not forgotten here!
Love,
Cathy Groves
